How does MAASTY compare to AASTY?
AASTY uses acrylic acid as its hydrophilic monomer; MAASTY replaces this with methacrylic acid — adding a methyl group to the backbone. This single change increases the hydrophobicity of the polymer and results in a less ordered monomer distribution compared to AASTY. Together these properties give MAASTY distinct nanodisc-forming behaviour, particularly with cholesterol-rich eukaryotic membranes.
Which variant should I start with?
We recommend beginning with the Screening Kit. In our experience, different membrane proteins respond differently to polymer composition, and the Screening Kit is the fastest way to identify your optimal variant with minimal material investment.
Can I order custom molecular weights, compositions, or end-group modifications?
Yes. Custom options include targeted molecular weight, MAA/styrene composition outside the standard series, azide end-group modifications, and biotinylated polymers on the chain terminus. Contact us at [email protected] to discuss your specifications.
